Sid Richardson with Annie Richardson Bass, Sid Bass, Nancy Lee Bass, and Perry Bass at Dutch Branch Ranch, Benbrook, Texas
About the Work
The occasion of this family photograph was the 5th birthday of Sid Bass. Richardson’s great-nephew is seated on his birthday present, the pony “Sissy.” Pictured behind him, left to right, are Richardson; Richardson’s sister, Annie; Nancy Lee Bass (wife of nephew Perry Bass); and, Perry Bass (Sid’s nephew). The photograph was taken at Sid’s Dutch Branch Ranch, located south of Fort Worth. Over the years, Sid leased or owned several ranches in Texas and Oklahoma, and the Dutch Branch was purchased in 1946. The ranch had at one time been owned by Elliot Roosevelt, son of President Franklin D. Roosevelt and his wife Eleanor. During Elliot’s residence there, the president visited his son on many occasions. Richardson never lived on the property, but rather used it as a local base for his ranching business. The ranch originally totaled around 3,000 acres of land, but today, a good portion sits under what is now Benbrook Lake.
